Nature and landscape

The mild weather makes for a pleasant visit regardless of which season it is. Active holidays which include hiking, biking, horse riding, water sports, fishing, hunting, parachuting and mountaineering have an impact on the natural balance. You can help preserve the balance by following along well-trodden and marked trails.

Our forests are home to three large animals, which are extinct in many places - bear, lynx and wolf - and they are in harmony with other wild animals (deer, wild boars, pigs, foxes, stone martens, badgers, rabbits, ducks, crows, magpies, dormice, etc.). In addition to many varieties of birds, beetles, butterflies, fish and lampreys, our area is home to many varieties of bats. When you enter their habitat, be careful and follow the marks. Do not try to feed the animals. Instead of by car, we suggest you discover Open Villages on foot, by bike or on a horse. Our rivers (the Vipava, Soča, Kolpa, Sava and Drava Rivers) offer an unforgettable experience of going down their pristine riverbeds in a kayak, canoe or on a SUP. In the company of guides or cavers, you can visit the Karst caves, some of which are turned into open air museums. Wildly blossoming meadows are pastures for autochthonous Slovenian bees. Pay attention to our wonderful honey trees.
