The confluence of the Soča and the Adriatic Sea is located in the Isola della Cona nature reserve near Tržič, or as the Italians call it, Monfalcone. Numerous bilingual inscriptions remind us that Slovenian foreigners still live here. In the central part of the nature park, a good kilometer away from the mouth of the Soča River, there is an excellent circular learning trail, where we can meet and observe many marsh birds, amphibians, insects, as well as some horses that graze freely inside the park. Along the way, there are many bird observatories, where we will be most impressed by the colorful beekeeper. With some luck, we will come across a frightened snake, and in the more overgrown areas of the swamp we will easily observe many colorful dragonflies and frogs. The reserve itself covers about 2400 hectares and is a real paradise for bird lovers, for about three hundred of them reside there permanently or temporarily. We can also walk all the way to the mouth of the Soča River, which winds lazily between many lagoons and swampy islands and bears no resemblance to the vibrant mountain turquoise-colored beauty that visitors to North Primorska remember. Numerous blackboards will also teach us about the rich underwater world of the nature park. The Soča estuary is located in Italy near the Slovenian border, but it will nevertheless be classified in the Primorska and Notranjska regions and in the Obalno-Kraška subregion.
