Overlooking the town of Solkan which is in the vicinity of Nova Gorica, Mt. Sabotin (609 m) makes for a popular tourist spot for hikers and cyclists. In the First World War it was the backdrop of the famous Isonzo Front where soldiers of 22 nationalities had shed their blood. Today it is a peace park designed to emphasise the absurdity of war and promote harmony between nations. The entire hillside is perforated with a vast network of caverns. Today, you can hike through them to the other side of the hill. The former guardhouse houses the museum collection Sabotin in the First World War, and also offers tours under professional guidance.
