Get to know the rich shoemaking history in a small town by the border. Miren in the Goriška region is known for its long shoemaking and leather traditions. Leatherwork was abandoned in the 1970s, and shoemaking still lives on in Mirno today. Smaller shoemaking workshops and later the shoe industry have always operated in the place, so shoemaking has marked the development of the place. The Miren shoemaking association strives to preserve the rich history of shoemaking and pass it on to younger generations. Pavel Petejan, a local, long-time craftsman and shoemaker, founded a leather and shoe museum in Mirno. The oldest objects kept by the museum date back to the 19th century. The museum collection shows the making of shoes over time and also all the support that was needed for it. Of particular interest is the old shoemaking workshop as it was before the introduction of machines. In addition to a rich collection of photographs, visitors can also find a multimedia presentation "Shoe after the old way", which shows the hand-made shoe.
